Easy Remote Control Pillow #CraftyDestash

Last Updated on August 2, 2017 by lydiaf1963

We have a smart TV, and a DVD player, and a cable box. They all have a remote. Sometimes keeping them all handy can be a challenge. This easy remote control pillow is a great way to keep the couch from eating your remotes and use up your stash of fabrics.

The inspiration for this pillow came from a pin that led to I Heart Organizing and the Monthly Crafty Destash Challenge. The object of the challenge is to use materials you already have on hand, allowing $10 for supplies like glue sticks, etc. If you’re a crafter, you have a stash, but even if you don’t this project is pretty inexpensive, especially if you recycle a pillow form like I did. The pillow is from a bed set and would never have been used otherwise.

Here’s how to make the pillow:

Wash and iron the fabric, then trim the pieces to one inch larger than the pillow form. For example, my pillow was 16 inches square, so I cut three 17 inch squares of fabric. This allows for a 1/2″ seam allowance.

Choose one piece to be the pockets. Fold it in half and press it. Then top stitch 1/8″ from the fold.

Next, lay another square face up and position the folded piece on top. Use pins or clips to hold the fabrics together. Then, use your remotes to determine the size of your pockets and mark the sewing lines using the heat erasable fabric marker. Top stitch the pockets, back stitching at the beginning to secure the pocket at the top.

Arrange the remaining piece over the piece with the pockets (right sides facing) and clip together. Leave a large opening at the top and sew around the remaining three sides, using a 1/2″ seam allowance. Back stitch at the beginning and end to help prevent tears when inserting the pillow form.

Clip the corners and turn the pillow right side out. Press one more time.

Carefully insert the pillow form and hand stitch the opening closed.

Train your family to return to remotes to the pockets and you’ll never lose them again!

  1. What a great idea. I hate having the remotes all over and in plain sight. With this it keeps everything nice and neat.

I have tried a box on the coffee table. The remotes would end up *next* to it, not in it, hahaha.
