My Little Knit Shopping Bag

Last Updated on October 2, 2017 by lydiaf1963

Hey there! Were you able to go out and knit in public on Saturday? I’ve been working on the Grrlfriend bag from Ravelry and finished it this weekend. Unfortunately, when I got to the event in Valladolid I found I left my phone on the charger so I was unable to take any photos (D’oh!). At least I remembered my current project. Today I’d like to share the finished version with you.

This was a fun, easy knit…nevermind the “design elements” introduced when I forgot to knit around in between lace rounds, hahaha. I made buttonhole handles (24 stitches wide) instead of the strap and I like the change, although a stretchy cast off would have been a better choice. I’m limited in how wide I can open the bag.

This bag stretches a lot! (except for the opening, ha!) It holds a couple days worth of vegetables. I bought these reusable mesh bags for vegetables in the grocery store in the US. Here in Spain you select your veggies, put them in a bag and weigh them yourself. The scale prints out a label. Since we shop every day or so, we save a lot of plastic baggies by carrying our own. And the veggies and our daily loaf all fit nicely into my knit shopping bag.

If you can knit, yarn over and knit two together you can make this bag. It’s easier if you start on double pointed needles, but you can switch to circulars as the project increases. The finished size of the bag will depend on the yarn used, the needle size and the number of rounds you choose.

What would you put in your little knit shopping bag?
