Last Updated on January 1, 2019 by lydiaf1963

It’s #MovieMonday again and this month’s theme is School Movies. I GOT CHILLS…because the movie I picked is GREASE! Let’s get retro with this Fabulous Fifi Scarf.

This movie always makes me think of my mother who graduated the same year as Sandy, Danny, Rizzo, Kenickie and the rest of the kids at Rydell High. She assured me her high school experience was very different. For example, they wouldn’t have done the HAND JIVE on the gym floor because street shoes weren’t allowed. Based on photos, though, she definitely had the look.

The Fifi Scarf is reminiscent of the small scarves wrapped around the neck in choker fashion and tied in a pretty bow. It’s retro and very feminine. It’s also a fairly easy knit. If you’re an experienced knitter, you can make one of these faster than GREASED LIGHTNING. Not to worry if you’re a beginner. Kate, the HOPELESSLY DEVOTED leader of the Pink Ladies Knitting4Knewbies Facebook group has the pattern as the second project for new knitters.

If Rizzo had the Fifi scarf, she wouldn’t have needed makeup to cover her hickey, just sayin’.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Fifi Scarf

Here’s what you need to know to make the Fifi scarf

  • knit
  • purl
  • knit front and back for increase
  • knit two together for decrease

The Fifi scarf fastens around the neck by pulling one end through a slit. Making the slit can be tricky and seems to cause some confusion, especially for new knitters. Here’s a video which explains how I did it and why I used DPNs for Fifi instead of other types of needles.

The fun part of making the Fifi scarf is it goes together with many current fashions like Like RAMA LAMA LAMA KA DINGA DA DINGA DONG. I’ll bet you know someone who would love to receive Fifi as a present, why don’t you download the pattern and plan to make your own?

I don’t think I can cram anymore movie references into this post, so let’s talk about #MovieMondays, shall we?

On the last Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!

Now let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create for this month’s #MovieMondayChallenge!! If you’d like to join our Facebook group, you can request an invite here.

  1. Very cool idea to go with the movie. I have tried to learning knitting many times and many different ways, but I just can’t get the hang of it.

I don’t have one, Marie, but I do recall wearing a letter jacket for most of high school and college.

  3. Love the movie references (my husband played Keneckie in high school and I love the film!) and a super cute knit! My cousin knits, I need her to make this for me!

  4. I used to wear scarves and this is too adorable! Such a fun representation of the movie and it would make a fun addition to a themed Halloween costume too.
